[Coventry set to visit Utah]

The International Olympic Committee president will meet with 2034 Winter Games organisers, state officials, and tour 2034 Olympic venues next week during an overnight, informal trip.

"Of course, we're extremely excited," Fraser Bullock, president and executive chair of the Organising Committee for the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, told the Deseret News. The International Olympic Committee chief's visit on the 23rd is expected to include meetings with Governor Spencer Cox, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall and leaders of the Utah Legislature.

Coventry will also stop by a Salt Lake City elementary school and an ice rink. Bullock explained that he invited the executive last February during the Milan Cortina Games.

"She's very gracious to make time in her calendar to fit in this trip between other obligations in the United States," Bullock said. He said organisers want her "to experience the beauty of Utah, the outstanding people that we have here (and) the warm friendliness that everyone exudes."

The organising committee will also discuss the event's progress. Utah 2034 has made huge strides in its planning, including securing financial commitments worth $250 million (€217.3m) towards an overall target of $300m (€260.7m) just two years after winning the bid.

It has also launched several initiatives aimed at engaging communities across the state, including Champion Schools 34, and has developed a unifying brand and identity for the Games. Utah 2034's corporate sponsorships won't be confirmed until the Los Angeles 2028 Games conclude. However, the team is working on its sponsorship programme for its launch in 2029.

The steering committee for the 2034 Winter Games met this week to review developments ahead of Coventry's visit. The 'Elevate initiative' was also brought up, whose leader, Scott Givens, explained is intended to identify "groundbreaking ideas- what could really take Utah 2034 and our Games to the next level."

Givens served as creative director for Utah's 2002 Winter Games and noted that suggestions for the 2034 edition centered around enhancements for athletes and their families and an emphasis on creating "the broadest access and participation for the widest array of Utahns."

"We've got lots of ideas that make 2034 and our Games the experience of a lifetime," Givens underlined. Bullock later commented that having a way for people to submit what they want from the 2034 Winter Games was a good idea. "Let us go to work on that," he said, suggesting it could be set up through the organisation's website.
